This site is intended for portfolio managers, though all are welcome. To invest in a spoke fund, please see the “Funds” tab above for a directory.
“A spoke fund is a group of separate investor accounts linked to a portfolio containing most of the liquid net worth of that fund’s manager.”
The Story of SpokeFund.com
By Cale Smith, Islamorada Investment Management
In 2008, I wanted to start my own fund. I had three main criteria:
1. I wanted to invest all of my own money the best way I knew how;
2. I wanted all of my friends and family to be able to invest; and
3. I was not going to be a lackey of Wall Street.
I couldn’t meet those criteria by starting a mutual fund, hedge fund, or running separately managed accounts. So, I figured out another way by using the technology of a company near Washington D.C. called FOLIOfn. This new kind of fund had considerable advantages over the old alternatives for both investors and portfolio managers. I came to call this a spoke fund.
On my blog, I began writing posts about what I had done. Other portfolio managers became interested in building spoke funds of their own. Emails flew. Phones rang. In the spring of 2010, I held an informal spoke fund workshop in my office in the Florida Keys, and a diehard group of folks flew in from all over. There it became clear that spoke funds were a bigger idea than I’d realized. And we needed a place to help spread the idea.
That’s what SpokeFund.com is all about. It’s a group of emerging portfolio managers helping each other out as we grow our own wealth and try to save investors from Wall Street.
SpokeFund.com is owned and administered by my firm, Islamorada Investment Management. We take your privacy seriously, as per our privacy policy viewable here.
