I’m thrilled to announce the listing of the Above Average Odds Investing Partners Fund here on SpokeFund.com. The AAOI Fund is co-managed by Ryan O’Connor of Cush Capital Management in Kansas City. From here:
The AAOI Partners Fund is a focused, long/short (long biased) Spoke Fund® that utilizes a research intensive, value-orientated, and often event-driven investment approach. The portfolio’s investment objective is long-term capital appreciation. Our performance, current holdings, and a more in depth breakdown of the funds investment framework, philosophy, etc. can be found here.
As of 9/8/2010 (since inception on 10/9/2009), the AAOI Partners fund has returned 26.96% vs. 4.97% for the S&P 500 and 4.41% for the Russell 3000, outperforming by 21.99% and 22.55% respectively.
Value investors in the crowd may also recognize AAOI as a popular blog – here is the link – but you probably didn’t realize that behind the blog was a real money portfolio backed by one of the partner’s net worth, too. Now ya know.
Cush’s tagline is:
Golden Rule Investing – Our future is your future!
Which, as their website points out, means “we don’t invest our clients’ hard-earned capital in any investment that we wouldn’t also invest our own capital in.”
They’re being modest. The guys at Cush invest the majority of their wealth right alongside their investors, too.
I’m a big fan of the AAOI blog, which, prior to this post, was being run fairly anonymously by Ryan, but now, well, he’s been outed as a Spoke Fund® manager. I’m also psyched to have Ryan here because Cush uses KaChing to run the AAOI fund, as opposed to using Folio like Steve, Kevin and I. Ryan has already been popping up on the message boards, and he’s going to be a great resource for everyone.
So, congrats, Ryan, and welcome, AAOI Fund!
And here’s a little more about Ryan from his official bio:
Ryan O’Connor has more than six years of experience in portfolio management, investment analysis and research, and is currently co-portfolio manager for both private accounts and the Cush Capital Partners Fund LP. As a securities analyst specializing in equity, debt, and special situation investing, Ryan brings valuable expertise and a unique skill set to Cush.
Prior to joining Cush, Ryan was an equity analyst for a value orientated investment management firm based in Lake Forest, IL. Previous to becoming a securities analyst, Ryan studied Economics at Indiana University (Bloomington), spent time as an options trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and worked for AG Edwards & Sons as a financial consultant. Mr. O’Connor is a member of the Value Investors Club, the Distressed Debt Investors Club, and Sum Zero, three exclusive communities of elite money managers.
Ryan and AAOI weren’t listed on here on the site when it launched a few weeks back. My fault. Both should have been.
And give Ryan a shout on Twitter @AboveAvgOdds, eh?
